Liar liar pants on fire! How many remember hearing that phrase chanted from across the playground as kids? As adults we don’t go around singing liar, liar pants on fire but we do notice when individuals say one thing and do another.

Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

I John 4:20

God’s word calls out this action of claiming one thing and doing another as a liar. Today’s verse calls us out saying, we are to love those around us, those we can see. They may not be brothers and sisters that we know or even share the same DNA or last name. Scripture says to love because we can see them, meaning they are human. If you claim to love God be careful how you treat the rest of God’s family, those people are our brothers and sisters. You would not want God to sing that childhood song to you. Love everyone today not because they deserve it, love because they are God’s kids, making them your brothers and sisters.
